Our Kids

We have five precious boys and, in October, 2006, adopted two beautiful little girls from Guatemala. Our kids are a fascinating blend of personalities, and we consider it a blessing and a privilege to have a big family. We can so relate to the line from the movie Cheaper by the Dozen, “We became great managers of chaos.” Our children have been homeschooled since our oldest son was in kindergarten. Trey loves animals, particularly horses. He rides dressage and plays golf. Timothy golfs and plays whatever other sport is in season. Our artsy child is Luke, who also golfs with his older brothers. Gabriel plays army with whatever weapon he can build from his vivid imagination and enjoys basketball. Elijah, as the fifth boy, is outspoken, brave, and assertive. Does that surprise you? : ) Carmen is curious about everything, but stays close to Mommy. Anna is a little shy, and loves the trampoline.

Tully was raised in Greenville, SC and after marrying Dawn, rededicated his life to Christ. His love for his Savior grew and deepened as Jesus Christ became his Lord. He has practiced medicine at Doctor’s Family Medicine in Greer, SC for twenty years. On his third medical mission trip with BMDMI to Honduras, he felt a deep conviction from God that He should pursue full time missions. One patient in particular broke Tully’s heart and convicted him that his call was genuine: a little ten year old boy who had developed severe bed sores from being confined to a wheelchair. This boy desperately needed surgery to close his wounds, but in Honduras, surgery was not an option as the public hospital had turned him away.

Dawn was also raised in Greenville, SC. She came to know Jesus as her Savior following the death of her father when she was five years old. Having known and loved Christ for most of her life, her relationship with Him deepened after marrying and seeing Tully’s hunger for a close relationship with God. Several years ago, God used the book Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger, by Ronald Sider, to break her heart for impoverished people and to plant a desire within her to do more.

As we look back at this time period, it astounds us at how vividly God was working in our lives individually but at roughly the same time.
